Understanding Weights

The different types of weight referred to during the butchering of a pig can get very confusing so we want to break them down for you and avoid any confusing.

LIVE WEIGHT
is the weight of the pig while living before it has been harvested.

HANGING WEIGHT is the weight of the animal after it has been killed and hung on the rail. Hang weight is approximately 75% of the live weight because the blood has been drained and the head, hide, feet, and organs removed.

CUT WEIGHT is the final weight once the pig has been broken down by cutting and wrapping (packaging) the animal into the customers desired cuts. The cut weight depends entirely on what the customer has ordered (i.e. bones in or out on pork chops)

We hope that this information has cleared up any question and confusion you might have around purchasing a half or whole pig from us. But we also understand it is a lot to take in so we are happy to help out further in any way we can. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with us!
